At Paris Fashion Week, Stella McCartney unveiled FEVVERS—a groundbreaking, plant-based alternative to feathers. The result? Ethereal movement, conscious craftsmanship, and cruelty-free couture that’s as kind as it is captivating.
Stella McCartney has long been fashion’s loudest voice for ethical luxury, and her S/S 2026 Paris Fashion Week collection took that mission to new heights—literally. The designer unveiled FEVVERS, a plant-based, feather-free material that mimics the drama and delicacy of real plumage without harm. The vegan material was crafted by UK startup FEVVERS, founded by textile artist Nicola Woollon and creative industry strategist James West.

“I’ve been having the conversation about not killing cows and goats and snakes or any living animal to be made into a shoe or handbag in my industry over 30 years,” McCartney shared with Agence France-Presse at Paris Fashion Week. “But I realised not that long ago that feathers were a whole other barbaric part of the industry,” McCartney noted backstage, reaffirming her commitment to phasing out animal-derived materials entirely.
It’s not only the world’s first plant-based feather alternative, but it’s also proof that brands who continue to use feathers are choosing cruelty over creativity.

“The innovation is just insanely beautiful, and we have created some of the most striking couture pieces I have ever seen,” McCartney told Vogue Business. “It’s not only the world’s first plant-based feather alternative, but it’s also proof that brands who continue to use feathers are choosing cruelty over creativity.”

For McCartney’s S/S 26 collection, the use of FEVVERS as part of her show was initially supposed to be for only a couple of the designer’s looks. But that increased to five. “We tried to buy a bit of time by convincing Stella to use it in the winter collection,” Woollon stated. McCartney’s response? “‘No, I love it so much I want to use it now.’ So here we are.”
The result is a vision of couture that’s light, fluid, and conscience-forward—an evolution of sustainable fashion that redefines what modern luxury can look like.
